It would be great to have the roster show e-mail addresses so that we could maybe locate some old buddies

I also would like e-mail addresses posted. Tin can sailors displays e-mail addresses. It would have to be voluntary of course. The old Higbee web site displayed E-mail addresses and it allowed me to contact people easier.

It would also be nice if you had on line registration, I have always gotten a good responce when i asked for a roster, but i think some of the visitors to the sight find the process confusing.

I love the site, just a suggestion.

When I spend the first few minutes every time I open my E-Mail just deleting the trash and garbage caused by spam, I guess I am a little sensitive to publishing E-mail addresses.

If everyone would sign up on the message board they can be contacted by e-mail with publishing the address (if they wish) and also take advantage of private messaging.

But I also took your advise and created a form for the crew roster changes. In it I added check boxes to allow ... YES publish my e-mail address or NO do not publish it.

Thanks for the suggestions to make this site better. Mike

In reference to posting "E-Mail" addresses to the "Crew Roster" listed in the WebPage, has proven impossible, as the frequency of "change" has played havoc with the Master Roster Copy that I have maintained for aprox. 12 years. Changing home addresses is in it self quite a task, but the growth, and modifications, and cost, E-Mail has become as easy to change as a shirt.
This "Message board" (as suggested) is a very good tool to start a search, and also a flag to others that may have a clue or two. I have always offered to help with the "Master Roster" that I maintain to assist if I have the information that your seeking is listed on the roster. Easy, just send me an E-Mail with the Name of the person that you're trying to locate. If this name is recorded, the information is yours,
(and also a complete copy of the Master Roster, I will send to you by e-mail Attachment.
Send for information, or Roster Copy:

Every time I go to the Higbee web site I am disappointed at how few new posts there are. Many of the items on the message board are three and four years old. I am also a little discouraged that there are so few listed on the crew roster who were aboard ship during the same time that I was. I'm sure some are no longer alive and many of the others may not even be aware of this web site. Anyway, here's to the old gal and the many crew members who served her well.

When I reported aboard the Higbee in 1957 the Captain was Cmdr. Ray Miller. He was later replaced by Cmdr. Ernest Hollyfield. Shortly before I left the ship in 1959 he was replaced by Cmdr. Kinith Lindstrom. I see Cmdr. Lindstrom's name on the "In Memoriam" list and that he died in 2003 but does anyone have any information on Cmdrs. Miller or Hollyfield? They were both WW2 vets so if still alive they would be in late 80's or early 90's. Just curious as to what may have happened to them.

I was scanning through the crew roster today to see if there were any new names added that I might recognize when a thought suddenly hit me. When I think about the crew of the Higbee I am usually only thinking of the crew who were aboard at the same time that I was, maybe three hundred or so. But we weren't the only ones who called Higbee our home. There were a lot of people before and after me who manned the same GQ station, stood in the same chow line, slept on the same canvas rack. And as lengthy as the crew roster is, it doesn't even begin to list everybody. I can recall ten or twelve from my time who I knew well that are not listed. The funny thing is, some of them are listed on the Tin Can Sailors Association site. I don't know how they found that one but can't find the Higbee site.
